I am directed to acknowledge the re-
ceipt of your letter No. Colonies 4526/00 of the 13th.
inst.stating that the 0.A.G., of the Straits Settlements
in Council was induced to prevent coolie imigration from
HongKong to the Straits Settlements, by the growing in-
crease of plague cases in liongKong and by an intima-
tion in the Local Press that the Sanitary Board of this
Colony proposed to permit plague patients to leave the
Colony, and asking for particulars of such proposal.
You further complained that no notice
has been sent to your Government regarding the cases of
plague that had occurred on board the S.S."Coromandel"
and stated that a lascar who, you were informed had been
ill since the 23rd. May, and had been seen by the Health
Officer at this Port but had been permitted to continue
his voyage, had died between HongKong and Singapore.
2. In reply I am to forward for your in-
enclosed copy of the conditions under
which plague patients are permitted to leave the Colony.
These conditions apply solely to Chinese, and to their
removal to their own homes in China. if situated
